Brilliant essay, Ryan. I followed you after the first couple of sentences.

This piece resonated very deeply with me. I have an EU passport and I often think about living in a city (maybe even Portugal) and working remotely. I think at some point Portugal was quite heavily promoting some digital passport program to encourage this.

But I'm very conscious about what this scenario—at scale—invokes. Comparatively wealthy westerners can quickly cannibalise a city, even unintentionally.
